Challenging topics of current interest in Nonlinear Solid Mechanics involve modeling and design of innovative materials and small-scale structures. Appealing applications span several fields ranging from Soft Robotics to Bioengineering. New-generation technologies involve soft robots, inflatable actuators, bio-inspired gripping devices, implantable nanogenerators, stretchable nanosensors, piezoelectric nanoactuators, resonant energy harvesters, nanostructured materials, origami-based programmable structures, just to mention a few. Addressing such complex systems requires nonconventional methodologies grounded in multiscale, nonlocal, and nonlinear mechanics as well as powerful tools of machine learning. The Mini-symposium aims to bring together researchers to discuss new insights in modeling, analysis and optimization of soft small-scale systems, smart materials and innovative structures. Neural Networks will be integrated to address complex challenges in Nonlinear Solid Mechanics involving large datasets. New achievements regarding unconventional nonlinear responses of multiscale systems, nanostructures and metamaterials, will be deeply investigated by means of advanced theoretical methodologies, effective computational techniques, and ground-breaking approaches based on artificial intelligence.
